SL send 12 swimmers for World Schools Swimming Championship in Brazil

Sri Lanka sent a team of 12 members for the 12th World Schools Swimming Championship 2019 which commenced three days back in Rio De Janeiro Brazil. Both girls and boys from the age group of 15 to 18 were selected from schools for this event.

Selection trials were held three months back at the Sri Lanka Schools Novices Swimming Championship. The best individual performers in each respective age group were picked into the pool of 12 that will represent Sri Lanka in the first international event for 2019. Former Royalist and Sri Lanka Olympic representative Julian Bowling will accompany the team.The 12-member team includes Devindhya Jayawardena and Onethra Weerasinghe (both from Mahamaya College), Stephen Perera (Gateway College), Sandeev Senaratne and Santhush Mallawathanthri (both from Ananda College), Shevendra de Silva (St. Joseph’s College), P. Arukshan (S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia), Premasha Cooray (St. Peter’s College), and Ganga Seneviratne, Ramudhi Samarakoon and Saneshi Herath (all from Visakha Vidyalaya).
