Sri Lanka cricket captain Dimuth Karunarathna said that the win against Scotland was an important moral booster ahead of the ICC World Cup preparations. Karunarathna said this on his first day in England as captain for the 2019 Wales and England ICC Cricket World Cup minutes before the official ICC Cricket captains media conference.

Having got only two matches as captain ahead of a world Cup, Sri Lanka beat Scotland by 56 runs in a rain-hit encounter after the first match was washed off without a ball being bowled. Had the second match got washed-out as well, Karunarathna would have been a captain making a debut in a world Cup. Before being appointed as captain, his last ODI played was in the previous world Cup in 2015.

The team will now move on to Cardiff in Wales for their first warm up match against South Africa on Friday 24th and then will play Australia on Monday 27th at Southampton, England and move back to Cardiff in Wales for their first match in the ICC Cricket World Cup tournament against tournament favourites New Zealand on Saturday 01st of June.

Dimuth Karunarathna, Sri Lankan captain, having been appointed weeks ahead of the World Cup tournament said that the inclement weather in United Kingdom and lengthy travelling have been a bit frustrating for the tournament ahead.

However, Karunarathna and his men are very confident that they can get together as a team and make a notable difference to their recent performance level during this world Cup.
