Cardiff stadium was packed up with Sri Lankan spectators on last Saturday hoping to see a great come back from our cricketers. Instead, they were left disappointed in all aspects of the game.
Our players showed no confidence at all from the beginning. Batters did not seem to know what they were doing or what they were expected to do. Although Dimuth showed some resilience, no other batter came up with their expected performance.
Sri Lanka ‘s under performance was such that the New Zealand managed to crush them for 136 in just under 30 overs. By this time Sri Lanka supporters sensed the defeat, they still carried on cheering them up hoping to see the team do well in their fielding.
Instead, Sri Lankan spectators were again disappointed to see the irresponsible approach of the team. It was visible that some of our players were not doing their bit which confused the supporters. No player took the bother to put any pressure at all on New Zealand. Sri Lankan spectators had nothing else to do but to fold their flags down while the joyfully started ‘Papare’ band music faded away.
Congratulations to New Zealand for their great start which bagged them an easy victory.
But when will the Sri Lanka team change their attitude and make their mark in 2019 World Cup ? When can we see the team spirit back at play ? Spectators eagerly await another match in Cardiff against Afghanistan on Tuesday. Will that be another disappointment? Hope not.
