Kimiko wins Singapore swimming to get World Championship berth

Sri Lankan swimming star Kimiko Raheem won the gold medal in the Women’s 100 Backstroke at Singapore National Championships with a 1:04.10 seconds on Saturday (740 FINA points).  She showed an emphatic hand up for selection for FINA World Championships with this swim, 20-year-old Kimiko Raheem is the only Sri Lankan female swimmer to have scored over 700 FINA points.
 
 
She proved her talent once again at this Singapore National swimming championships. Pedersen Elena finished second with 1.0419 seconds while Fajar Ejavi third-place 1.04.76 seconds.
 
 
Kimiko represented the country at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2016. She won multiple gold medals at the 2016 South Asian Games in the backstroke and freestyle events. She also won the highest number of medals by a Sri Lankan woman at the 2016 South Asian Games in India.
 
 
Kimiko the younger sister of Mayumi Raheem and Machiko Raheem both of whom hold national records themselves. She was a semi-finalist at the 100M Backstroke event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. She holds numerous Sri Lankan national records and South Asian records in her name.
 
 
Kimiko Raheem currently lives in the USA for higher studies also work hard to develop her swimming skills with further training She also trained at the Thanyapura Aquatic Training Centre from mid-2015 leading up to the Olympic Games. This was under a FINA scholarship awarded to multiple swimmers from several countries.
