Weight-lifter Indika and boxer Anusha win sports personality of the year

Indika C. Dissanayake won the Presidential Award for the Sports Personality of the Year in 2017 and 2018 at the third Presidential Sports Award ceremony at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall yesterday.

Indika C. Dissanayake who won the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games 2018 in weight lifting also won the Most Outstanding Sportsman award. Commonwealth Games 2018 bronze medalist in boxing, Anusha Kodithuwakku was awarded as the Most Outstanding Sportswoman in 2018.

L.P.G. Amara Indumathi Karuanthilake won the Most Outstanding Differently Abled Sportswoman of the Year award who won the silver medal in long jump event at the Asian Para Games 2018 and Dinesh Priyantha Herath who won the javelin throw gold medal at 2018 Asian Para Games became the Most Outstanding Differently Abled Sportsman. Dinesh Priyantha also won the bronze medal at World Para Games in 2018.

Nimal Lewke, Chandrishan Perera, Captain Tilan Perera, Prema Pinnawala, Prof. Ranjith de Silva and P. Don Victor were awarded the ‘Kreeda Booshana’ title and Mrs. W.D. Chandra Kanthi, L.A.D. Premaratne and Suneetha Wijesuriya were offered the ‘Kreeda Ratna’ title.

Presidential Lifetime Achievement Awards of Excellence (Kreeda Deshoththara) were presented to Anura Tennakoon, Mrs. Mali Wickramasinghe and Mrs. Pushpamali Ramanayake.
