It was an unforgettable moment for the Silver Ferns as they created history by beating the defending champions Australia to take the Netball World Cup 2019. The match was evenly poised as both teams were hungry to come out better at the big occasion and crown as the Netball Queens of the world.
In the first quarter, both teams finished equal scoring 10 goals each and the changeover for the New Zealand came in the as they took a three point lead to be had Australia (28-25).
Australia bounced back to reduce the margin early on in the third quarter but with many mistakes by their shooters, New Zealand capitalized to keep their scoreboard ticking. The tension and the pressure built up for the Diamonds as the third quarter finished keeping Silver Ferns in front (41/37)
Bothe teams played all out in the final quarter in front of capacity crowd at M & S Bank Arana with more support with the ladies in black. Finally Silver Ferns ended Diamond’s winning streak by just one goal margin 52-51 and crowned as new world champions for the second time in the 15 year old history of the Netball World cup.
