The Wallabies changed their pre-World Cup narrative with a thumping record equalling 47-26 win over an All Black team that was reduced to 14 men for the duration of the second half of a pulsating Bledisloe Cup and Rugby Championship clash in Perth on Saturday.
Up until now Australia had been widely written off as a factor in the forthcoming World Cup in Japan but after this excellent performance and comprehensive win over the world champions and reigning No 1 team in the rankings will make all their competitors sit up and take notice. It underlines what the Wallabies are capable of and they do seem to be building strongly given their incremental improvement over the three matches they have played so far this year.
The result also removes New Zealand from the equation when it comes to who will win the Rugby Championship. The Wallabies have taken a one point lead at the top ahead of second placed South Africa, who now only need to pick up a bonus point in their game against the Pumas in Salta in order to secure the Championship title.
