Sri Lanka’s pace bowler Suranga Lakmal who was denied with some wickets on day one of the first test against New Zealand bounced back on day two take four out of five wickets to his name to finish with 29 for five with the other wicket being a run-out.
Having captained Sri Lanka for a short stand in tenure with a successful record Suranga Lakmal said that he always tries to give his maximum effort to the team. “I am very proud of my performances. I like to reach test 150 wickets quickly. I am only second to paceman Chaminda Vaas test wickets tally” said Lakmal.
In a recovery effort, Suranga Lakmal is unbeaten on 28 with wicket-keeper batsman Niroshan Dickwella who is on 39 after Sri Lanka was struggling at 7 wickets down for 171. “I knew as a player we have to give all-round performances and I always work hard for that. Tomorrow, the third day is once an again fresh day both my self and Dikwella want to get maximum effort to play on the first ten overs to not to give any wicket.” added a determined Lakmal.
He said that the wicket is getting to turn already and that they have to be very selective in the fourth innings batting and that they need to build up a good lead in the first innings to face that challenge. “I have a big challenge as a batsman. I always train very hard with our batting coach. Most of the people said I have the ability to bat and get more effort as a batsman. Going back to my last one and a half years I train very hard during the practices as a batsman. I don’t think anyone wants to throw away his wicket” explained Lakmal.
