Sri Lanka confidence in making an impact at Asia Sevens Series

Sri Lankan Tuskers ready themselves for the first leg of the 2019 Asia Sevens Series to be kick off this Saturday (31)  in South Korea. The Sri Lankan outfit take on Strong Japan and China and are very much in confidence to make some impact

The initial Sri Lanka Sevens squad which was announced last week has gone through some changes.

Naveen Henakankanamge has been called into the touring squad .Former S. Thomas’ and CH & FC wing was  was kept standby for this leg, has been called in to replace Police SC star, Sachith Silva, who was ruled out with just seven days to the tournament. Silva was supposed to play a key role in the team, injured his hamstring at a practice session earlier this week.

Silva who was picked mainly because of the versatility he brings in, with his ability of finishing, kicking and defending, misses out on his opportunity to debut for Sri Lanka in the Sevens circuit. Henakankanamage on the other hand, will make his second appearance in the Asia Sevens Series, after debuting last year.

The Squad is as follows:

Danush Dayan (Kandy SC) – Captain, Srinath Sooriyabandara (Kandy SC), Jason Dissanayaka (Kandy SC), Thilina Wijesinghe (Kandy SC), Reeza Raffaideen (CR & FC), Dinuk Amerasinghe (CR & FC), Janidu Dilshan (CR & FC), Anuradha Herath (CH & FC), Nishon Perera (CH & FC), Naveen Henakankanamge (Havelock SC), Sudaraka Dikkumbura (Army SC) and Kevin Dixon (CR & FC).

Sri Lanka fixtures:

Day 1 (31st August) (all Sri Lanka times) Sri Lanka v China (11.12 a.m.)

Sri Lanka v Japan (2.30 p.m.)
