Sri Lanka cricket team to get security of a Head of State in Pakistan

Sri Lankan Cricket team will be provided with the security status of Head of State when they travel to take part in a oneday and T20 cricket series in Pakistan late September this year.

This was reveled at a special meeting held with the Pakistan Cricket Board and Pakistan Government by the Official of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC)

SLC ‘s Mohan de Silva and SLC’s security advisor Marshall of the Air Force Roshan Gunatilleke had visited Pakistan recently to look into the security status of Pakistan to take a decision on sending Sri Lanka team for this intended tour.

During the meeting the Government of Pakistan had guaranteed the security of the Sri Lankan team similar to a Head of State.

Accordingly special protection will be arrange for the hotel where Sri Lanka team will be hosted and training venues. Further Security measures have been taken to provide special security to the buses carrying the players from the hotel to the playing venues.

Sri Lanka will play three ODIs and three Twenty 20s during this tour of Pakistan. The first ODI is scheduled to be held on September 27 at the National Stadium in Karachi.

Similar security measures were in place during the last few matches of the Pakistan Super League in March and the participation of foreign players in Pakistan.

After the terrorist attack on Sri Lanka in Lahore on March 3, 2009, Pakistan have not played an international test. In 2015, however, Zimbabwe played a one-day series in Pakistan despite heavy security. Then, in 2017, Pakistan hosted three exhibition Twenty20 matches between Pakistan and the World Team, making Pakistan a safer country.

Under the leadership of Thisara Perera, the Sri Lankan team also participated in a Twenty20 match in Lahore in October 2017.
