Sri Lanka made an inauspicious start to their quest at the Asia Rugby Sevens in South Korea losing both group matches played on Saturday.
In the opening game Sri Lanka went down to China by 14-17 with Janidu Dilshan and Reeza Rafaideen scoring a try each and in the second match were trounced by Japan 43-5 with Srinath Sooriyabandara scoring the only try.
The Sri Lanka women’s team were overwhelmed by Hong Kong 33-10 but made a strong comeback against Malaysia in their second game to win 35-7.
Ayesha Kaluarachchi, Anusha Attanayake, Nimesha Wijewardena, Sanju Wijetilleke and Thanuja Weerakkody scored the tries.
They will meet Japan today in their last group.
