CEAT Racing adjudged Car & Bike champs at Gajaba Super Cross 2019

The CEAT Racing Team roared in to contention for 2019 championship honours with a dominant performance at the Gajaba Super Cross on Sunday, 1 September, becoming both Car and Bike team champions at the Saliyapura circuit in Anuradhapura.

The team’s ace riders Jacques Gunawardena and Evon Gurusinghe put on a scintillating display to, between themselves, win both first and second places in four races in the Group MX 250cc and Group M STD/MOD 250cc events, with Gunawardena also being adjudged champion rider of the Gajaba Super Cross 2019.

In the events for cars, CEAT racing driver Ushan Perera was placed second and third respectively in the two SL GT – Cars up to 3500cc (Super Car) races, while team mate Malika Kuruwitaarachchi won the Subaru Legacy event.

In all, members of the CEAT Racing Team accounted for nine podium finishes at the meet, conducted by the Gajaba Regiment of the Sri Lanka Army in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Autosport Drivers Association (SLADA). The new Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, who is also Colonel of the Gajaba Regiment, was present at the event.

The 2019 CEAT Racing Team which competes under CEAT livery comprises of drivers Upulwan Serasinghe, Ushan Perera, Malika Kuruwitaarachchi, Devin Serasinghe, Chamod Perera, Col. Duminda Jayasinghe, Col. Indu Samarakone and Chamod Samarakone and riders Evon Biyagee Gurusinghe and Jacques Gunawardena.

CEAT is also the title sponsor of the CEAT SLADA 2019 Championship, which will be decided on five races to be conducted by SLADA in the course of the year. The races are the Gajaba Super Cross, Gunners Super Cross, Sigiriya Rally Cross, Katukurunda Motor Cross and Fox Hill Super Cross. The Fox Hill meet is managed by the Ministry of Sports with the participation of all motor racing clubs.

Besides its title sponsorship of the sport’s premier annual championship for the 10th year, Sri Lanka’s highest-selling tyre brand CEAT is supporting, for the next three years, the Sri Lanka Automobile Sports (SLAS) sanctioned ‘One-Make’ series of tarmac races at which all competing drivers use CEAT tyres.
