Mahamaya Balika Vidyalaya, Nugegoda won all the championships of girls’ category including all top three-positions of under 15, 17 singles and under 17 doubles events, when the 18th Junior National Carrom Championship was conducted by the Carrom Federation of Sri Lanka (CFSL) at its headquarters in Delkanda recently.
Deshani Kaushalya, winner of the under 15 singles event, won the under 17 double’s event with Yeshani Kaushalya while Nuwanthika Sanjeewani, winner of under 19 singles event, won the under 21 doubles event with Tharushi Hiamhansika of Mahamaya Balika Vidyalaya Nugegoda.
This tournament included 14 events under five age categories and participated by over 650 players island-wide.
World Champion Nishantha Fernando’s son, 5-year-old Theviru Nuhan Fernando of Prince of Wales College Moratuwa participated at this tournament and he was able to win at second round.
At the boy’s singles and doubles, Sylvester College Kandy, S. Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia, St. John’s College Nugegoda, Hindu College Kokuvil Jaffna, Prince of Wales College Moratuwa, SL Army and SL Air Force were able to win championship title each.
