Sri Lanka suffered their first defeat in the ongoing Tri-Nation Under 19 cricket tournament in West Indies when they lost to England by four wickets in a league match played at Coolidge Cricket ground, Antigua on Sunday.
Invited to bat first Sri Lanka could muster only 113 in 42.4 overs the batting collapsing to England’s new ball bowlers George Balderson and Scott Currie who between them shared six wickets.
Top scorer for Sri Lanka was wicket-keeper/opening bat Kamil Mishara with 23 off 50 balls.
England began well and were at one stage 65-1, but lost wickets regularly to be 101-6 before limping home in the 33rd over.
Dan Mousley held the England top order together with a bright 43 off 62 balls but his dismissal at 82 brought about a mini collapse.
Spinners Dilum Sadeera and Kavindu Nadeeshan were once again amongst the wickets capturing five wickets between them.
With two matches to play in the league against West Indies on December 17 and England on December 19, Sri Lanka seem assured of a place in the final scheduled for December 21 with England.
