Hasaranga happy to bat at number seven after his match winning knock

A match-winning unbeaten knock of 42 runs under pressure by Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga earned the hosts a thrilling one-wicket victory against the West Indies at the SSC grounds on Saturday.
Being adjudged the man of the match, Hasaranga said that he had good a confidence to bat under pressure and wanted to stay end of the game.
“Actually, when I went to the middle we had to get 60-70 runs but enough balls to do that and senior player Thisara Perera was at the wicket followed by Isuru Udana. I also got chance to score four and a six from the start of my innings and that build up less pressure for me,” said Hasaranga
However, after the dismissals of Thisara Perera and Isuru Udana, it was left on young Hasarange to take on the responsibility while the supporting roles were expected from Lakshan Sandakan and Nuwan Pradeep.
Hasaranga also commented on his battling style and position. “I had this type of match-winning knock at the Domestic T- 20 final on this same grounds last month. Actually I normally got chance to bat at number 7- 8 positions and that is the usual position for me. I started my one day career in 2017 playing against Zimbabwe and this is 2020 during these three years I had to bat the same position”. explained Hasaranga.
Especially I always work hard during the practices and from the last Bangladesh series I had a chance to play continuously one day cricket. But I had nearly 20 months out of the team without matches and that period I did hard practices to enter the team. I knew I have to learn more and getting more matches is very important for me said Hasaranga the promising spin all-rounder of the team.
My present coach Mickey Arthur and his supporting staff always give excellent support to all and we are very happy about their work and looking forward to doing well added Hasaranga.
