The first ever National Sports University concept is going to introduce for the benefit of the sportsman and sportswomen . Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Dullas Alahapperuma announced that everything is ready for the construction of Sri Lanka’s first sports University as the premises of Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, Diyagama, Homagama, to empower children to be successful at the international level through the development of sports skills.
The Minister Dullas Alahapperuma further emphasized that sport is an indicator of development and good health of the country. It may be noted as a sports economy for the country as referred to in the “Vision of Prosperity” declaration of. President Gotabhaya Rajakapksa.Minister also pointed out this is very important area and it should work out immediately. Actually this area is very important to focus on sports development and already cabinet proposal produced to start the contraction work of this National Sports University project . Sports Minister Higher Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena and Sports Ministry Secretary K.D.S Ruwanchandra and Sports University Committee chairman Dr Chandra Embuldeniya who was the inaugural Vice Chancellor of the Uva University went to University premises for the observation tour on last Tuesday (5) .
The 126 acres land near the Diyagama Mahinda Rajaoaksha Sports Complex selected for this National Sports University and expected to cover all subjects attach to the sports both in theory and practical basis. The main idea is to empower athletes to strength their future from this University . Especially the athletes who brought honour to Sri Lanka from the International sports such as Olympic, Commonwealth Games, Asian and South Asian level could get more success from. this University. University Committee Chairman Dr Embuldeniya pointed out to uplift the sports field professional knowledge of the sport field is very important. Training and research of the sport field should do from this level University .
Today most of the children neglected sports and focus only for the subject to pass the exams and it should change. We have to search born talented athletes and give correct way to develop their talents and National Sport University make good opportunity for them added Dr Embuldeniya the Chairman of the University project . The construction work of the Sport University will commence next September and already made successful discussions to work out immediately .The international level facilities also going to include this Sport University.
The primary plans of the discussions are successful . Already the subjects of this University course , duration and lectures are already at discussion level added Sports Ministry Secretary K.D.S Ruwanchandra .Due to this Corona Virus situation University Committee discuss of this arrangements from the Video Technology and their plans pointed out at the observation visit at Diyagama last week.
