SAG athletes felicitated by Sports Minister

Balancing Sports and Education was important and that policy paved the way for Sri Lankas success at the last South Asian Games said Sport Minister Dullas Alahapperuma.Six athletes who obtained medals at the last SAG showed how to balance studies with sports and they got successful results at the GCE O/L exam. The exam was held at the Sri Lankan Embassy in Nepal during the SAG and all arrangements were made for the athletes to sit the exam during the SAG.

The six athletes brought honour to Sri Lanka with medals and also passed the exam with good results and they are an example for all other students as well as parents said Sports Minister.

Today parents are more concerned about exams and only focus on the exam than sports.

These six athletes are good example for all. Chatuni Bagya Karunaratne of Princess of Wales Moratuwa who won the SAG bronze medal at Fencing got all nine A’s at the O/L exam while her twin sister Chamodi Pratibha Karunaratne who got Fencing bronze passed the exam with 8 A’s and a B while two Colombo Vis akhians Yeheni Kuruppu and Ganga Seneviratna also excelled at SAG Yeheni won the bronze at Squash while she got two A’s. 4 B’s and three C’s. Ganga got same results and she also managed to get three silver and bronze at swimming.

In addition two Ladies College girls Alana Seneviratna who won the Silver at Tennis passed with 7 A’s and 2B’s while Table Tennis silver medal winner Ayla Chitty excelled in the the exam with 5 A’s,2 B’s and a C.

Sport Minister handed over cash awards and certificates to the six athletes at the Sports Ministry auditorium on Wednesday Exam Department and Foreign Ministry did their best to set up a special exam centre at the Nepal Embassy and Minister also thanked the Exam Commissioner Sanath Pujetha and officials the Minister also handed over appreciation letters to all officials who were involved in exam duty at Nepal.

Sport ministry Secretary K.D.S Ruwanchandra, Principals of Princess of Wales, Ladies College and Visakha also graced this felicitation ceremony.
