Nalandian LMSD de Silva leads the way in Sri Lanka Chess Grand Prix

L.M.S. de  Silva of Nalanda College, Colombo kept his lead with 5 ½ points out of possible six games at the halfway mark in the 7th Sri Lanka Chess Grand Prix 2020 which is now in progress at the Chess Federation headquarters, Nugegoda. The tournament conducted by Chess Federation of Sri Lanka (CFSL) started  on last 11th running up to 19th  June .

According to the Vice President of  CFSL   Luxman Wijesuriya who also the General  Secretary of South Asian Chess Council and Commonwealth Chess Association , Chess became the first sport to start the sports calendar in Sri Lanka  after  a completion of almost four months lockdown period  due to Covid -10 pandemic.  The CFSL made  arrangements following all medical guidelines and history record of players are taking this event .

Nalandian L.MS.D de Silva who is 2019 National team player beat Elath Mathannga after half way mark of the tournament and de Silva is very energetic and continues the winning stream . Meanwhile G.C Anuradha and Kevin Ranindu of St Bnedict’s are behind with 4 ½ points each are following  him by Dimuth Abeywardena and E.D.S Chandula respectively .Minul Doluweera beat Tisal Manjith Piyumantha at round six has  four points.

Top 12 Chess players are competing his  7th Chess Grand  Prix and tournament conducted round robin system for supremacy.   The 2019 National Team player, Young LMST De Silva, Under 16 National Champion – Kevin Ranindu Silva, National Amateur Champion – EDS Chandula, Buddhika Amarasinghe  Seniors – Dimuthu Priyadarhana & Elath Mathanga, Young stars – Jenith Weeratunge & Thisal Manjith Piyumantha are participating in the event.

Before the starting event former chess champions took part to encourage young players . Luxman Wijesuriya the Vice President of FCSL , Reigning Champion Chandana Wijekoon,, and former National Chess Champions G.C Anuruddha, Minul Sanjuala Doluweera and International Master Romesh Weerawardena were participated this  opening ceremony .

The   CFSL  has offered . 50,000 rupees for the Champion with a total . 115,000 rupees – prize fund with trophies and Medals. on final day on 19th at the prize giving .

3. Romesh Weerawardena Drew with Chandana Wijekoon
4. Jenith Wiratunge beat AACB Amarasinghe
5. GC Anuruddha beat Dimuthu Abeywardena
6.  LMST De Silva beat Elath Mathannga
