The Independent Television Network (ITN) has won the telecasting rights for the inaugural franchise-based Lanka Premier League T20 Cricket Tournament within Sri Lanka.
The state-owned network, ITN, which runs on a free-to-air basis, will take this exciting game to all corners of Sri Lanka, earning a strong follower base for the tournament starting from November 26.
Colombo Kings will take on the Kandy Tuskers in the curtain-raiser match of the tournament under lights at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Hambantota with the final scheduled for December 16.
Galle Gladiators, Dambulla Viiking, and Jaffna Stallions are the other teams participating in this 23-match tournament.
“Sport has an immense power to bring a positive social change through the actions and words of the players,” Chairman of ITN, Sudath Rohana told yesterday.
“Cricket is one sport in which Sri Lanka can associate itself with and it is the game that could bring in that kind of change to the island nation,” he elaborated.
“It gives me an immense sense of satisfaction to partner with the LPL and be part of this social change that will go a long way in helping the nation grow through this sport,” he added.
The LPL schedule:
November 26: Colombo vs Kandy.
November 27: Jaffna vs Galle.
November 28: Kandy vs Dambulla, Galle vs Colombo.
November 29: Rest and practice.
November 30: Dambulla vs Jaffna, Kandy vs Galle.
December 1: Colombo vs Dambulla. Jaffna vs Kandy.
December 2: Rest and practice.
December 3: Galle vs Jaffna. Dambulla vs Kandy.
