LPL2020-Dambulla Vikings tame Colombo Kings

Dambulla Vikings won by 28runs against Colombo Kings in the first match played today in the Lanka Premeir League 2020 concluded at the Mahinda Rajapaksha International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota.

The Dambulla Vikings led by Dasun Shanaka won the 7th match of the Lanka Premier League Cricket Tournament by 28 runs against the Colombo Kings today (1st). With that victory, the Dambulla Vikings finished third in the bonus points table.

Dambulla Vikings won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 175 for 9 in 20 overs.

Dasun Shanaka’s leadership excellence from the start of the tournament was reflected in this match as well, becoming the highest scorer of his team. He scored 56 off 34 balls with four sixes and three fours. Samith Patel (30) and Upul Tharanga (25) helped Dambulla Vikings lift the scoreboard. .

Andrew Russell took 3 wickets for 18 runs and Isuru Udana took 3 wickets for 25 runChasing a target of 176 for victory, Colombo Kings were bowled out for 147 in 18.4 overs.

Dushmantha Chameera and Jeffrey Wandase, who were the last two batsmen for the Colombo Kings, took the game in a different direction at the last minute, but lost their last hope when Dushmantha Chameera was caught by Pulina Tharanga in the face of a ball from Anwar Ali.

Samith Patel sent Dinesh Chandimal back to the pavilion off the first ball he faced, giving Dambulla a good start. With the exception of Lori Evans (59) of the Colombo Kings, the Dambulla Viking bowlers did not allow any batsmen to cross the 20-run mark.

Samith Patel, Malinda Pushpakumara, Anwar Ali and Pulina Tharanga shared two wickets apiece.
