Angelo Mathews will fly home from the tour of the West Indies to attend to a family matter, Sri Lanka Cricket announced on Thursday.
The veteran captained Sri Lanka’s T20I side against the West Indies in the absence of Dasun Shanaka. The visitors lost the tightly contested series 2-1.
Sri Lanka trail the West Indies 1-0 in the ongoing three-match ODI series after losing the opening match by eight wickets.
After electing to bat first, the touring side were bowled out for 232 despite a 105-run opening stand between captain Dimuth Karunaratne (52) and Danushka Gunathilaka (55). They were two of only three batters to pass 20 for Sri Lanka, with Ashen Bandara’s 50 required to drag them past 200.
The West Indies made light work of the chase thanks to a century from Shai Hope. Playing his first match for the West Indies since last July, Hope scored a classy 110 and put on a 143-run stand with opening partner Evin Lewis (65).
The two teams next meet on Friday at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, before the final ODI on Sunday.
The tour concludes with a two-Test series commencing on 21 March.
