Paige Greco Wins First Gold Medal at Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games

On the first day of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, Paige GRECO (age 24, Australia) won the first gold medal of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games in the Women’s C1-3 3000m Individual Pursuit.

Greco triumphed in a world record three minutes, 50.815 seconds. After competing in Para athletics for seven years, she switched to Para cycling in early 2018.

In accordance with comprehensive COVID-19 countermeasures in place during these unique Games, Greco collected her own medal from a tray and placed it around her own neck at a ceremony at Izu Velodrome. She also collected a bouquet of flowers.
