South African fast bowler Dale Steyn has announced his retirement from international cricket on Tuesday (31)

Later players like Wasim Akram and Glenn McGrath were able to renew the history of fastball starting with Courtney Walsh and Curtly Ambrose. Then there are the handful of fast bowlers in modern cricket. Dale Steyn is one of them.

Born in South Africa in 1983, Dale Willem Steyn set the tone for international cricket in 2004. Today, 16 years later, he officially announced his departure, leaving a note on his official Twitter account.

“Today I am officially saying goodbye to the sport I love the most. Bitter but thank you, ”he wrote.

“This is a journey of twenty years. Training, travel, achievements, defeats, plastered legs, fun and brotherhood. I have so many memories. ”

“Thank you all. Thank you to everyone from the family to my teammates, from the journalists to the audience. This is a big journey. ”

Dale Steyn retired from Test cricket in 2019 and has since played in ODIs and Twenty20s. However, he has had some setbacks in international cricket due to injuries sustained in recent times.

Steyn last played in an international cricket tournament in February 2020. His cricketing future was severely affected by a shoulder injury sustained during a tour of Australia in November 2016 and he was also sidelined for several months.

Dale Steyn was included in the South African squad for the 2019 World Cup, but had to withdraw from the tournament due to a recurrence of his shoulder injury.

However, he had hoped to play in the 2020 Twenty20 World Cup, but the cancellation of the tournament had shattered all his hopes.

After retiring from international cricket, Dale Steyn participated in several league tournaments. He also played in the Pakistan Super League last March. Although many have speculated that he will retire following his decision not to play in the Indian Premier League last year, Steyn has turned them down. Dale Steyn also represented the Kandy Tuskers in the 2020 Ceylon Premier League.

Dale Steyn, who made an indelible mark in international cricket for 16 years, has passed away today.

The most successful year of his cricketing career was 2007-08, when he averaged 16.24 and took 78 wickets. He also won the Test Cricketer of the Year award from the International Cricket Council for his performance during that year.

He was named Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 2013 and was named Wisden Leading Cricketer of the Year the same year. Undaunted, he became one of Wisden’s Cricketers of the Decade in 2019. He also won a seat on the ICC Test team announced last year, testifying to his prowess.

In his career, Dale Steyn played 93 Tests, 125 ODIs and 47 Twenty20 Internationals, taking 439 Test wickets, 196 ODI wickets and 64 T20I wickets.

Dale Steyn also added a part of the song “A long December”, a popular song by the band Counting Crows.

“And it’s been a long December and there’s reason to believe,Maybe this year will be better than the last I can’t remember all the times I tried to tell myself myself to hold on to these moments as they pass ”
