The Man behind the success of Sri Lankan Para medalists

By Akhila Seneviratne

“Behind every great athlete is a masterful coach that inspires the athlete to evolve into the strongest performer they can become,” is a quote by Cathy Engelbert that perfectly relates. Pradeep Nishantha, coach of our medal-winning Paralympians and many others.

Pradeep Nishantha is unarguably Sri Lanka’s best throwing event coach and has been the mentor of every national-level player that has taken up the sport. He is the coach of Dinesh Priyantha and Samitha Dulan, who won the Gold and Bronze at the Paralympics 2020 in Tokyo Japan.

This is not the first time in producing a medalist in an international event as he has been Dinesh Priyantha’s coach when he won the Bronze medal in 2016 but this year, its a double success. He was also the coach of Sumedha Ranasinghe who represented Sri Lanka in the 2016 Olympics.

His contribution towards making medal-winning athletes at the Paralympics 2020 was recognized by the Ministry of sports and has come forward to award a cash prize

There is a lot of hard work and training hours put into these champion Paralympians by Pradeep Nishantha.  He  is one person the athletes are most grateful to, for providing guidance and confidence in their wins. Therefore, we must recognize his  contribution as well and give due credit for all the efforts Pradeep Nishantha put into these athletes.
