The fifth Test between India and England had to be abandoned due to the COVID-19 virus.
The winners of the Indo-England Test series were to be decided by this match and hence this match was very important for both the teams. The Board of Control for Cricket in England has asked the ICC for help in deciding the outcome of the final.
The third Test was scheduled to start last Friday and the authorities decided to abandon the match three hours before the start of the first day. That is because of the spread of the COVID-19 virus among the members of the Indian team. So far, four members of the Indian team’s coaching staff have been infected with COVID-19.
A proposal has been made to take the rest of the Test match to the England spring time frame next year. However, Tom Harrison, chief executive of the Board of Control for Cricket in England, said that if the Test match was taken to next year, it would be considered another tournament.
He had said that if that happened then the match would not be considered as a World Test Championship. Therefore, the Board of Control for Cricket in England is seeking the advice of the ICC to make a decision on this match.
