Bureaucracy can kill the goose that lays the golden egg .My personal friend and renowned cricket writer Sa’adi Thawfeeq has stated facts , hence i want to quote from his exquisite ariticle. It is unfair to blame the current crop of T 20 players for their dismal performance. Its the sports Minister and the Technical commitee and the selectors who are responsible for the poor and non competitive outfit that will represent Sri Lanka in the forthcoming T 20 World Cup. You dont need a rocket scientist to state that Dhananjaya de Silva and Dinesh Chandimal are not good enough for T 20 cricket. Hasaranga is over rated as a bowler. He has not bowled to the likes of Virat Kholi, Rohit Sharma or Chris Gayle in subcontinent wickets so far to prove his worth.
We are going with just one genuine seam bowler in Dusmantha Chameera for the World cup , and included Akila Dhananjaya, who bowls more leg spinners now due to his flaw in his off spin action. He with international umpires will be called for throwing and that will end his career , we cannot replace him , during the tournament.
The only player who looks good for this format and was cut above the rest was Kushal Perera, and we risked playing him with a breathing problem in the second T 20 , coupled with a hamstring injury in the 3rd.How can you risk Bhanuka Rajapaksha as your number 3 batter. Appalling.
They foolishly appointed Kushal Perera as captain , then removed him and appointed Dasun Shanaka. Shanaka has a foot work issue against spinners, where are we heading to ?
We will miss Dhanuska Gunatilleke and Niroshan Dickwella. They are the typical T 20 types , but the punishment meted out to them, takes its toll now.
He added that T 20 is a batsmans game. People want to see runs. Not players scratching at the wickets . So what type of pitches are we preparing ?
My views is Sa’adi has hit the nail on the head. Like i mentiond yesterday, there are two sides to a coin. Angelo Mathews should have been given a fair look at , (Panda) Thisira Perera, and why not Lasith Malinga. Just immagin if we had these five players , we would be writing a different script.
To some taking part , and not being competitive is fine. We also played the game is at school boy level. I love Dave Whatmore, with him its “i play to win mate”.
Negociations , early planning, and never forget , a captain needs experience. Young hopefuls must be an understudy . Not given a gold chain to put round his neck whilst a school boy.
