Kartik Tyagi’s last-over heroics star in RR’s nail-biting two-run win against PBKS
Punjab Kings needed 10 runs off 15 balls with 8 wickets in hand. However, courtesy of Kartik Tyagi’s last-over heroics, which yielded just one run and two wickets, Rajasthan Royals managed to secure a two-run win.
Karthik Tyagi’s superb last over where he gave away just 2 runs when he was asked to defend 4 runs in the last over against Punjab Kings helped Rajasthan Royals claim a 2 runs win in the 32nd match of the IPL 2021 here at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai on Tuesday. Punjab failed to make 4 runs in the last over when they had 8 wickets in hand.
Chasing a challenging but getable total of 186 runs, Punjab Kings openers gave a solid start to their team with 120 runs opening stand. Punjab’s Mayank Agarwal went on to score 67 runs while captain KL Rahul scored 49 runs. Both the openers were sent back after the century partnership. But Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran then built another 50 runs partnership to help their side get closer to the target.
Earlier, Riding on superb bowling performances of Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Shami Punjab Kings all out Rajasthan Royals on 185 in the first innings. Punjab won the toss and opted to field first. But the decision seemed to have backfired as RR openers Evin Lewis and Yashsvi Jaiswal gave an explosive start to their team’s innings. Jaiswal went on to score 49 runs in 36 balls with the help of 6 boundaries and two sixes. Evin Lewis also played aggressively for his 36. English batsman Liam Livingstone was also looking impressive but could not get a big score after getting a start. Mahipal Lomror played a match-changing knock as he scored 43 runs in 17 balls with the help of four sixes and two fours. However, no other batsman could manage to give RR an explosive finish which left them reeling for 200.
