Sri Lanka in the preliminary round of the upcoming T20 World Cup
The teams that will directly qualify for the 2022 World Cup to be held in 2022 were named yesterday (07). That was after the match between Australia and the West Indies.
Out of the 12 teams that participated in the Super 12 round of the World Cup this year, 8 teams have directly qualified for the Super 12 round of the 2022 World Cup. The Sri Lankan team did not qualify for those eight teams.
Accordingly, the 8 teams that qualified directly are as follows.
Hosts Australia, England, India, Pakistan, New Zealand, South Africa, Afghanistan and Bangladesh
The two teams that will qualify directly for the 2022 World Cup are the two teams that have won the World Twenty20 Championship and runners-up this year, as well as the other six teams that will finish in the top six in the International Cricket Council rankings.
Following on Australia’s recent win over the West Indies, the West Indies finished 10th in the rankings, while Bangladesh finished eighth and qualified directly.
The last date on which these rankings were based was November 15th.
Sri Lanka ranks 9th in the rankings. Accordingly, the Sri Lankan team is scheduled to participate in the preliminary round of the Twenty20 World Cup next year.
In addition to the Sri Lankan team, the West Indies, Scotland and Namibia will also take part in the preliminary round.
