Sri Lanka will field 7 athletes for the 2021 Asian Youth Para Games are scheduled to take place from December 2 to 6 in Manama, Bahrain.
The Sri Lankans will represent in this year’s competition in athletes (05) and swimming (02). Janani Dananjana (women’s T46 100m , Long Jump) , Mohommed Safran ( Men’s T46 100m , Long Jump) , Jason Raja jayawardana ( Men’s F40 Shot Put) ,Ravindu Chiranjaya ( Men’s T11 100m, 200m,400m) and Isuru Hansaka Udayarathna (Men’s T46 100m, 200m Long Jump) will compete in Athletics events while Navid Raheem and Galeena Themel Basnayake represent Sri Lanka in swimming events. Pansilu Prasan will join the team as the helper for Ravindu Chiyandaya.
Naveed Raheem will be the Team captain.
Priyantha Peiris (Chef de Mission) ,Lasanthika Sriyakanthai (Lady Chaperon ) ,Dr Asanga Basnayake ( Team Doctor/Covid liaison officer) , Nalinda Senarath ( Coach –Athletics) , Dumeera Maduranga ( Coach /Representative of Ministry of Education) , Jullion Bolling (Coach-Swimming) will join the contingent as officials.
Meanwhile swimmers Galina Basnayake ( 50m,100m , 40m free stayle / 200m individual Medley ) and Navid Rahim ( 50m, 100m free style/ 100m butterfly /100m Individual Medley) are to be join the contingent subject to the approval of the LOC.
Athletics, badminton, boccia, goalball, taekwondo, powerlifting, swimming, table tennis and wheelchair basketball are the nine sports on the Asian Youth Para Games programme for 2021.
2021 Asian Youth Para Games, also known as the 4th Asian Youth Para Games is the 4th edition of multi-sport events for Asian athletes with disabilities.
An estimated 800 athletes under the age of 20 are expected to compete in nine sports during the 2021 edition of the Asian Youth Para Games.
Previous editions were held in Tokyo in 2009, Kuala Lumpur in 2013 and Dubai in 2017.
Bahrain was confirmed as host of the Games in June 2020.
