Two experienced bowlers Nuwan Pradeep and Ramesh Mendis took three wickets each as Dambulla Giants recorded 20 runs win over Kandy Warriors in their LPL cricket fixture played at R.Premadaa International cricket stadium yesterday.
Kandy Warriors chasing their target of 191 runs were struggling at 28 for 3 wickets at one stage but finally managed to get 170 for 8 wickets in their 20 overs. Skipper Angelo Perera 24 in 22 balls and Kamindu Mendis 17 in 18 balls added 42 runs fourth wicket stand to repair their Innings. However when off spinner Ramesh Mendis introduced to attack he was able to pick both Perera’ s and Mendis’ s wickets with same style stumped by Niroshan Dikwella. The Carribian hard hitter Rovman Powell the number six batter tried to increase their total while hitting 42 in 21 balls with four sixes and a four but Dambulla bowlers fought back strongly to pick up wickets to insert more pressure to control the game. Mendis finished with 3 for 21 while Pradeep the paceman finished with 3 for 31.
Earlier Dambulla Giants openers Niroshan Dikwella and Phil Salt made a good start with adding 97 runs stand in 7.4 overs . Dikwella made 37 in 23 balls hit six fours while 25 year old North Wales right hander Salt played a anchor role to increase their total adding brisk knock of 64 in just 27 balls hit four boundaries and five sixes finally out return catch took by Bangladesh paceman Al Amin Hossain who finished good spell with 2 for 36.
Skipper Dasun Shanaka ( 24 in 18 balls) and Ramesh Mendis (22 not out in 11 balls) hit useful contributions to reach their total of 190 for seven which was good challenging total at this wicket.
Lahiru Kumara was the pick of the bowlers for Kandy Warriors taking 3 for 34 in his four over spell while Sachindu Colombage and Rovman Powell took one wicket each.
Dambulla Giants opener Phil Salt was named Man of the Match.
