Jaffna Kings recorded their consecutive second victory of the LPL21 with a mind blowing total of 181 runs in
just 14 overs maximum as the rain interrupted the play half way through the innings. The Kings won the game
by 14 runs according to the D/L method, after a well fought innings by the opposition Kandy Warriors.
The openers of Jaffna once again accompanied by Avishka Fernando and Rhmanulla Gurbaz started the game
with great confidence, however Rhmanulla Gurbaz got departed by youngster Nimesh Vimukthi for 8 runs of
8 balls and Tom Kohler-Cadmore for 14 runs of 11 balls by Rowman Powell giving the Warriors a push start of
victory.
However, Avishka and Thisara Perera bashed the bowlers of Kandy with a shower of sixes , bringing up a partnership of 105 runs of just 33 balls making the spectators stand up from their seats enjoying the nonstop sixes after the shower of rain.
Avishka scored 53 runs of 23, and Thisara Perera scoring 53 of 21 balls. However the Warriors managed to break the partnership departing Avishka and Thisara but the kings managed to get a magnificent 181 runs of 14 overs on the scoreboard with the help of Shoaib Malik and Chaturanga de Silva.
Although the scoreboard seemed invincible the mighty openers of Kandy Warriors Kennar Lewis and Charith
Asalanka managed to build up a trusting partnership each scoring 41 of 36 balls and 42 of 19 balls. However
Jayden Seals managed to break the partnership getting the wicket of Charith Asalanka, but Rovmen Powell
joined the party with Kennar Lewis with a classic West Indian aggression of Cricket raining sixes and bashing
bowlers in and invincible play as Rovman Powell scored 61 runs of just 19 balls with 7 sixes and a strike rate of
321.05.
As the Warriors were marching ahead seemingly unstoppable, it was Suranga Lakmal who managed to
get the vital wicket of Powell with a great spell of yorkers. With that the struggle and the pressure grew intense
leading the rest of the batsman’s Kamindu Mendis, Kennar Lewis, Angello Perera, TM Sampath and Minod
Bhanuka to walk back to the dressing room.
Suranga Lakmal was awarded the man of the match with 1 wicket of 25 runs.
