The 87th edition of the Great Cricket Battle between St. Peter's College, Bambalapitiya and St. Joseph's College, Maradana concluded yesterday (14) at the Sinhala Sports Club Grounds, Colombo.
With the first day of play limited to 55.3 overs due to heavy rain, St. Joseph's were 233 for six in their first innings.
Hiran Jayasundara (53) and Deshan Seneviratne (14) put on 261 for the loss of seven wickets at the end of 60 overs in the first innings.
St. Joseph's bowlers then restricted St. Peter's innings to 130 in 56.3 overs.
Shenuka de Silva took 3 wickets for 25 runs and Lahiru Amarasekera took 3 wickets for 40 runs.
St. Peter's had to play the second innings at the invitation of St. Joseph's as they failed to score the required 162 runs to be released from the follow - on opportunity.
Lahiru Devatage, who became the anchor of St. Peter's in the second innings, scored an unbeaten 50 off 76 balls as St. Peter's' scoreboard stood at 82 for two.
Yesith Liyanage took one wicket for 19 runs and Shenuka de Silva took one wicket for 21 runs for St. Joseph's.
The ODI between St. Joseph's College and St. Peter's College will be played on Thursday (16) at the Sinhala Sports Club Grounds, Colombo.
