South African Wicket keeper Quinton de Kock has announced his retirement from Test cricket with immediate effect. The ongoing Test series against India just started and he will not take part in the remaining fixtures.
It is reported that this decision was made with immediate effect to spend more time with his growing family. He just turned 29 two weeks ago. However, he will still play in the white ball format.
“This is not a decision that I have come to very easily. I have taken a lot of time to think about what my future looks like and what needs to take priority in my life now is that Sasha and I are about to welcome our first child into this world and look to grow our family beyond that.”
“This is not the end of my careers as a Protea, I’m fully committed to white ball cricket and representing my country to the best of my ability until the foreseeable future. All the best to my teammates for the remainder of this Test series against India. See you in the ODIs and T20s.” – Quinton’s Statement
He was a regular member of the South African side since 2014 and has played 54 Test matches, scoring 3300 runs and has taken over 220 catches behind the stumps. He was regarded as one of the best all format batters among the present batters, being in the Top 10 of the ICC Rankings in all formats until recently.
He recently made headline over the Black Lives Matter issue during the T20 World Cup but this time, he has retired from cricket’s original format. India defeated South Africa today and only scored 34 and 21 in the 1st Test match.
