Sri Lanka Goes Down Despite Dasun’s Century

Sri Lanka lose the 2nd ODI to Zimbabwe by 22 runs and the series is leveled. Dasun Shanaka scored his maiden century, only to go down the next ball, resulting in a loss while chasing a total exceeding 300.

Zimbabwe won the toss and batted first. Their start was good and their batting consisted a lot of top performances and 2 missed milestones. Regis Chakabva went down on 47 but Sean Williams and Captain Craig Ervine kept on batting.

They put a 106 run partnership until Sean Williams who was the century maker in the last match, missed his fifty by 2 runs. Ervine also missed his hundred as he was dismissed on 91.

Sikandar Raza made sure Zimbabwe crossed the 300 runs mark. He made a quick 56 runs and was dismissed in the last ball. Zimbabwe made 302 for the loss of 8 wickets.

Sri Lanka had a horrid start. The top order failed and the scores read 61/4 and one point. Kamindu Mendis and Dasun Shanaka built on a 118 run partnership until Kamindu fell shortly after reaching his maiden half century. He holed out a simple catch on 57.

Dasun Shanaka had to bat along with Chamika Karunaratne cautiously as he was the last recognizable batter. The 66 run partnership came to an end when Shanaka tried to go for another 6, the very next ball after scoring his maiden century.

None of the remaining player could make any impact after Chamika was run out for 34. Sri Lanka ended on the losing side today as Tendai Chatara and Blessing Muzarabani picked 3 wickets each. Craig Ervine was man of the match.
