Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) board will continue the policy of sending a selector on tour and Hemantha Wickramaratne is in all probability been asked to be ready for the Australian tour, it is learnt.
According to the sources in the SLC, the 50-year-old Hemantha Wickramaratne will go to Australia subject to his negative PCR tests.
Hemantha Wickramaratne is one of the three-member National Men’s selection panel. The other member, Romesh Kaluwitharana is in Oman playing for the Asian Lions team in the Legends League and appratenly, he was consulted for picking the 20-member team selection for the Australia tour.
The team will once again be managed by Chandima Mapatuna. “He will be the interim manager till the permanent coaching staff and the manager are not appointed”, one of the sources said. Interestingly, the team will have Prad Navaratnam as computer analyst. After relinquishing the SLC job at the Brain Center, Prad Navaratnam is already in Australia and his services will be hired, it is learnt.
“He will be with the Australian team on contract basis for the five matches”, the source added. Ruvin Pieris and Manoj Abeywickrama will be the batting and fielding coaches respectively. The team will leave on February 3 play a series of 5 T-20 International matches in Australia.
