It is learned that Maxwell De Silva, the Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOCSL) has avoided from giving a statement today after being summoned at the Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau (CFIB).
He was expected to respond to a complaint made by M H Usuph, an active sports enthusiast and a whistle blower of sports corruption. The allegation made is for the misuse of several millions in funds belonging to NOCSL.
It is believed there have been withdrawings of funds in duplicate for travel and accommodation expenses of 2016 Rio Olympics. The NOCSL is a public and national sports body in Sri Lanka and Auditor General of the National Audit Office of Sri Lanka has looked into this matter and published the necessary documents.
It is also learnt that Maxwell De Silva has sent a letter to the CFIB citing his reasons to avoid appearing today. There is a massive question on how a potential fraud within a national sporting body that needs to be investigated could be avoided in writing.
