Sri Lanka Emerging cricket team led by Nupun Dhananjaya will play their tour opening four-day cricket match against Kent today (6) in Canterbury commencing at 3.30 pm (Sri Lanka time). The first four-day match of the three-match series is more important to the Sri Lanka cricket team to adjust to the conditions in their month-long England tour.
Sri Lanka National Selection committee named two captains Nupun Dhananjaya for the four-day games while Dhananjaya Lakshan for the three T-20 Games and 18 member squad for this England cricket series.
Sri Lankan emerging team is ready to play this game today as they had practice sessions on two days at the Lord’s Grounds and later traveled to Canterbury on Wednesday night.
This is going to be a real test for the Emerging team players as they have a good opportunity to get more exposure during this tour. Playing against the England county team always gives big exposure for the Sri Lankan youngsters and our plan is to give a good experience for promising players, said Chairman of the Selectors Promodya Wickramasinghe. This type of tour is very vital for youngsters as they are the replacements for the National team. The National cricket head coach Chris Silverwood pointed out Dimuth Karunaraten has a good chance to get more experience as he is playing for Yorkshire and Suranga Lakmal for Derbyshire. Silverwood pointed out the value of county cricket and the Sri Lanka Emerging team has a chance to face against county players during this series.
