CWG-2022 DAY 5- Yupun in action today.

The much awaited athletics events will get underway at the 22nd Commonwealth Games in Birmingham today, the 5th day of the competition.

Sri Lanka’s medal prospect 100m dasher Yupun Abeykoon will run his first heat today at 03.10 pm Sri Lankan Time. Yiupu who has improved himself in 100m event with progressive timing with taking part in the diamond league recently hope to provide some comfort to Sri Lankan camp. Sri Lanka has won one bronze medal so far in weightlifting and the second medal hope in same sport went down as the skipper Indika Dissanayake could not hold his expectations.

Sri Lanka will have another hope today as women’s cricket team will play against New Zealand in Group B match. Sri Lanka already lost to England by 5 wickets in their opening game and they will play against South Africa as their last match.

Along with Yupun Abekoon  , Gayanthika Abeyratne will compete on women’s 800m round 1 in athletics.

In boxing Rukmal Parasanna (men’s bantamweight round of 16) and Sanjeewani Cooray (women’s featherweight round of 16) will compete today while in Judo Chamara Repiyallage (men’s 73lg round of 16) and Rajitha Pushpakumara (men’s 81kg round of 16) are ready to take part in their events respectively. Nikalas Vitallis (men’s light middleweight round of 16) later in the evening.

Chathurika Priyanthi will compate in women’s 87kg category in weight lifting scheduled in the evening today.

Sri Lankan men’s and women’s beach Volleyball teams will also be in action today. Men’s team will take on Gambia in group A game and women’s team will take on Cyprus
