Day 9- Sri Lankan Badminton Wrestling and Squash players will be busy today

With two more days to unfold the 22nd Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, there are few Sri Lankans who will be in action in four sports today (August 6) .

Dulanjan Kaushalya Fernando will take part in Men’s 3m springboard preliminary swimming competition to be worked off at 10.05 local time in the morning.

Five Sri Lankan women wrestlers will vie for the honors today. Shiranthika Niroshani will meet Nigeria’s Mercy Genesis in the women’s freestyle 50kg Nordic Group B match while Chamodya Keshani competing against Canada’s Samantha Stewarts in the women’s freestyle 53kg Nordic match.

Once again Shiranthika Niroshani will compete in women’s freestyle 50kg Nordic Group B and her opponent will be  Canada’s Madison Parks. while Chamodya Keshani will compete in her second match against Nigeria’s Mercy Bonafunoluwa in the women’s freestyle 53kg Nordic match. In addition to this Chamodya will have to compete against India’s Vinesh Phogart in the same category later on.

In Squash Mixed doubles plate semifinal game will be held between Sri Lanka and Guyana. Sinely Chanithma and Shamil Wakeel will team up against Mary Fun and Shomari Whilshire (12.35 local time)  .  In women’s doubles, Sinely Chanithma and Yehani Kuruppu will have a battle with Pakistan’s Faiza Safar and Amna Fayyaz. (20.45 local time)

Sri Lankans will be in action in Badminton as well today. Thilini Hendahewa and Sachin Dias will have a match against Lauren Smith and Marcus Ellis of England in the mixed doubles quarter-finals.(12.45 local time)   Apart from that Buweneka Goonathileka and Sachin Dias will team up for a men’s doubles quarter-final match against Kiang Meng and Peng Soon of Malaysia (20.50 local time)
