Sri Lanka’s First Safeguarding Officer in Sport by IOC

Gobinath Sivarajah of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka successfully completed the first ever IOC Certification for Safeguarding Officer in Sport with high honours. He was the only Sri Lankan among the 69 enrolled from 38 countries.

“The course has shone a bright light on Safe Sport. It takes a brilliant approach with research and has offered a tremendouse learning opportunity,” quotes Gobinath who is academically qualified from the University of Jaffna and in South Korea, has been very passionate in sports and Games for a long time.

He was also the Press Attaché in this year’s Commonwealth Games. The Safeguarding Certification is the icing on the cake during his NOC career and now, an officer from the very first batch of students.

As defined by the IOC, Safe Sport is an environment where athletes can train and compete in healthy and supportive surroundings which is respectful, equitable, and free from all forms of harassment and abuse to help protect athletes from harassment and abuse in sport.
