CR and FC delivered another tremendous blow as they brought down their traditional rivals Havelock SC 17-14 in their SLR Nippon Paint Inter-Club League Rugby Tournament Super Round Cup Championship match played at Longden Place yesterday.
CR and FC also went on to beat their opponents for the second time this season having earlier won the first-round encounter 23-21 at Havelock Park and had the satisfaction of regaining the coveted Commander Eustace Matthysz Trophy.
CR and FC collected their points from two goals and one penalty after leading 10-8 at half time while the Havies responded with one goal and three penalties.
Wageesha Weerasinghe and Manilka Ruberu scored a try each for CR and FC and the extra points were added by fly half Thenuka Nanayakkara, who also fired across a vital penalty.
Havelock SC’s solitary try was scored by Nivanka Prasad while Sandesh Jayawickrema put over two penalties and Chanaka Chandimal booted one penalty.
