Scotland Cricketers REFUSE to shake hands with rape-accused Sandeep Lamichhane

Scotland Cricket Team declined to shake hands with Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane after their three-wicket loss in Kirtipur on Friday. This was seen as a silent protest to the former Nepal captain’s ongoing presence and involvement in the ICC’s Cricket World Cup League 2 series. The team shook hands with every other Nepal player after the game, but pointedly refused to do so with rape-accused Lamichhane.

The charges against Lamichhane are for sexual coercion with a minor and he is on a bail at the moment. Once CAN (Cricket Association Nepal) lifted a suspension on the granting of his bail, he was given the go-ahead to participate in the series, which also features Namibia.

Players from Namibia and Scotland refused to shake hands, which was the climax of earlier hostility over Lamichhane’s presence. In a previous match, Namibia’s players opted to fist-bump Nepal’s players, including Lamichhane, but they did not extend handshakes after the match.
