Lahiru Kumara and Asitha Fernando took two wickets each as New Zealand crumbled to 162/5 at stumps on Day 2 against Sri Lanka in the first Test in Christchurch.
Tom Latham and Devon Conway had giving the hosts a bright start after Sri Lanka were bowled out for 355. Latham and Conway added 67 runs for the first wicket before three quick dismissals turned the tide in Sri Lanka’s favour.
Latham was dismissed on 67, while Daryly Mitchell was batting on 40.
Tim Southee bagged five wickets as Sri Lanka were bowled oout for 355 on Day 2.
Earlier, the visitors posted 305 runs at the loss of 6 wickets on the opening day of the game after New Zealand skipper Tim Southee won the toss and opted to bowl first in the game. Kusal Mendis shone with an 87-run knock, while Dimuth Karunaratne scored 50. Southee was the pick of the bowlers on Day 1 with a three-wicket haul
