Sports minister stressed the value of training continuously

Athletes have to continue their training throughout the year and officials have to make plans to get more success said sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe at the discussion with the athletes at the Sports Ministry Duncan White Auditorium yesterday.

Today most of the athletes and their officials suddenly wake up and ask for more facilities from the Sports Ministry just before the major international events. I think this system has to change and Sports bodies have to form National pools and continue their training to focus on major events. In addition we have to always focus on athletes and their facilities.

National sports Council and National selection committee have to work together to get athletes success. The appointment of National selection committee is continued with more strategic plans and we also focus on District and provincial level selectors to make selections and we have discussed with National selection committee and National Sports Council added Sports Minister.

We will cut down on officials for overseas tours and include more athletes and focus on more medal winning sports by providing more facilities. Actually National Paralympic Committee (NPC) is the best Sport Body. If we give some document or a letter NPC always make quick reply and attend their duties and that’s why they got more success recently.

The few sport bodies perform their duties but most of the sport officials always come to the ministry and try to get our support. The Sports officials have to work for the benefit of Sports and their athletes. If they do their work we also can give our support said Sports Minister.

There are few areas to work on for betterment of Sports while we have to get all support for success of Sports added Sports Minister.

Arjuna Ranatunga the Chairman of the NSC, National selection Committee Secretary Arjun Fernando, NSC member Rt Major General Rajitha Ampemohotti and Sports Director General Amal Edirisooriya also graced this discussion and gave their views while athletes asked their questions from the Sports Minister.
