Sri Lanka win two Bronze at WPC in Paris

The Sri Lankan Para Athletes have won two Bronze medals at the World Para Athletics Championship held in Paris, taking the medal count to 5 in the Championship history.

Samitha Dulan Kodithuwakku in the F64 Javelin finals on Thursday, threw for a distance of 64.06 metres, his seasonal best to clinch the Bronze, his first medal in the championship and the third Sri Lankan to do so. The first was Pradeep Sanjaya in 2013 where he won the Bronze in T46 400m.

Competing in the F64 Javelin final, Dinesh Priyantha Herath won the Bronze medal yesterday with a throw of 65.38m, which is also his seasonal best and was unlucky to miss the Gold as he fell short by just 3cm. This is his third consecutive medal in the Championship, having won Silver medals in 2017 and 2019.

Just before the Javelin final yesterday, Pradeep Somasiri ran the Men’s 1500m final. Despite finishing in 7th place, he achieved his personal best timing of 4 minutes 0.50 seconds.

With a small contingent with only 3 members, it is noteworthy that two won medals and one of them achieved a personal best.
