The Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023 came to a successful close! Filled with heartfelt emotion, top-notch sporting action, passionate youth advocacy and health game-changers, there were new friendships forged, commitments made and a reaffirmation in the power of inclusion to transform and generate meaningful, sustainable impact following the games.
A big thank you to all athletes, leaders, volunteers, sports officials, guests, spectators and simply everyone who made the games possible. This was the first World Games in four years, in the aftermath of the pandemic.
To underscore what was collectively achieved, here is a quick global snapshot of the games:
- 6,500 athletes and Unified Partners participated
- 48% female athletes
- 18,000 volunteers from 126 countries
- 9,000 family members
- 3,000 coaches and support staff
- 100,000 tickets sold for the competitions
- 15,000 Healthy Athletes® screenings
- Over 60 ministers and government officials attended
- Over 50 national and international sports federation representatives press
