In the opening match of LPL 2023, the defending champions Jaffna Kings took the first lease of the wicket upon the invitation of Colombo Strikers’ Captain Niroshan Dickwella, who won the toss.
The Kings made 173 for 5 in their 20 overs, with Towhid Hiridoy being the standout performer, scoring the first half-century of the 4th edition of the LPL. He made 54 runs, including 4 fours and a six. However, the opening pair of Nishan Madusahanka (12) and Rahmanulla Gurbaz (21) couldn’t capitalize on their starts. Charith Asalanka contributed 12 runs, and Priyamal Perera added 22 runs to the total. Jaffna Kings lost a total of 5 wickets. For the Colombo Strikers, Matheesha Pathirana, Chamika Karunaratne, and Lakshan Sandakan took one wicket each.
In response, CS Skipper Niroshan Dickwella provided a good start to the match by scoring 58 runs with 9 fours and one six. However, CS lost wickets during the middle overs, and in the end, they could only manage to score 152 runs in 19.4 overs. Finally, JK won by 21 runs.
