Top seeds Zaidh Zihar and Githmi Fernando stole the limelight at the 108th National Tennis Championships, continued at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) Courts in Green Path, Colombo yesterday.
Zihar, the schoolboy from S. Thomas’ College, rallied around through his experience to beat the bottom seed Vichinthya Nilaweera in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 in the Boys’ Under-18 Singles final.
Earlier, Githmi, from Ave Maria Convent, Negombo lived upto expectations as the top seed and the favourite as she rallied around magnificently to overcome the number two seed Sandithi Usgodaarachchi 6-1, 6-3 in the Girls’ Under-14 Singles final.
Meanwhile, the top seed Yudheerya Atapattu qualified to meet the bottom seed Damsath Peiris in the Boys’ Under-12 Singles final after both players won their respective semi-final matches.
In addition, the quarter-final line-up in the Boys’ Under-16 Singles was also completed with Chamidu Abeysinghe, Ganuka Fernando, Louis Knese and Methwan Wijemanne joining the fray.

(Boys’ Under-16 quarter-finals): Chamidu Abeysinghe beat Lithum Jayabandu 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Ganuka Feranndo beat M. Wickramasinghe 6-3, 6-3. Louis Knese beat L. Goonetilleke 6-4, 7-5. Methwan Wijemanne beat Aahil Kaleel 6-4, 6-1. (Boys’ Under-12 semi-finals): Damsath Peiris beat B. Jayawardhana 2-6, 6-4, 7-5. Yudheerya Atapattu beat D. Wickramasinghe 6-0, 6-1.
