B-Love Kandy secured their first Lanka Premier League title by beating Dambulla Aura by 5 wickets in the finals played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Chasing a modest target of 148 runs for victory, their top batsmen performed well and acted more responsibly without their regular captain Wanidu Hasaranga, who opted to rest due to an injury.
Openers Mohammed Haris and Kamindu Mendis put up 49 runs for the first wicket before Haris was dismissed for 26. Then Kamindu and Dinesh Chandimal raised the score to 94 with a 45-run partnership, and Kamindu fell short by 6 runs in his maiden 50-run innings of the tournament.
Earlier, DBA won the toss and elected to bat first. In the 2.2nd over, BLK bowler Pradeep took Avishka Fernando’s wicket. Skipper Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama built a 57-run partnership for the second wicket. Afterward, Dhananjaya de Silva scored 40 runs with 3 sixes, and Kusal Perera remained unbeaten with 31 runs, helping DBA to post a total of 147/4 in 20 overs. Chaturanga de Silva took 2 wickets, while Nuwan Pradeep and Mohammad Hasnain took one wicket each.
