Sri Lankan fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera is out of the upcoming Asia Cup, it is learned.
According to the highly placed SLC (Sri Lanka Cricket) sources, the 31-year-old right-arm fast bowler will miss the entire Asia Cup tournament.
“He sustained a shoulder injury and advised rest. This shoulder injury (ligament tear) he suffered in one of the matches in the recently concluded Lanka Premier League (LPL)”, the source in the SLC revealed.
“Before the LPL, he had recovered from his ankle injury. We want him to be fit for the World Cup and therefore has been dropped from the Asia Cup squad. If he is able to move his hands freely, will be considered for the World Cup”, an insider added.
The decision on another player, Wanindu Hasaranga, whose name has also been sent to the sports ministry for approval will be made once he clears the fitness tests. The 26-year-old all rounder has a hamstring injury.
The selectors in consultation with the coaching staff and the captain (Dasun Shanaka) have selected the squad of 15 players (Dushamantha Chameera and Wanindu’s names there) and five standbyes.
The selector Hemantha Wickramaratne will travel with the team. He was also the tour selector when the Sri Lankan team won the last Asia Cup (T-20I) in Dubai last year. This year, the 50-over event is happening in Pakistan and Sri Lanka
